Approach

The teaching and learning process by digital tools is providing more access to learning compared to previous times in which it was presented with abstraction and complexity, causing ineffectiveness.

One of the tools that has gained importance in the educational field in recent years is the augmented reality, which along to the virtual have derived in the so-called mixed, becoming the three protagonists of new forms of learning.

Originated by the natural sciences, little by little augmented reality has been introduced in the field of the social sciences, although its first achievements have been carried out in history and tourism, there are many experiences in the literature that highlight its usefulness to facilitate visits to museums, and many other things.

These technologies make it possible to establish a path between the complex and abstract theoretical concepts and the practice in a pleasant, clear and exciting way for the student; thus, causing a successful teaching process. However, research work and classroom experiences are scarce. This monograph responds to this situation, calling for the presentation of educational articles that present both research and teaching works linked to teaching-learning mediated by augmented reality at all levels of education in the field of social sciences.

The main topics will reflect advances in learning, classroom use experiences, methodologies design as well as rubrics for evaluating the use of virtual reality, augmented and/or mixed in class, 2 research results in which this technology is the object of study.

The followings are some questions created to invite the educational community to participate in the framework of these general topics.

  • What are the educative possibilities of the AR?
  • What is the knowledge professors have for applying AR in the classroom?
  • How can the objects be reproduced using AR?
  • What is in the literature about the application of AR in the classroom?
  • Which have been the research topics?
  • Are the different educative institutions prepared to use AR?

Professor of educational technology at University of Seville (Spain).He is the director of the Audiovisual Resources and New Technologies Department of the University of Seville. He is the editor of the International Journal Pixel Bit, Media and Education journal. His line of research is emerging technologies.

Verónica Marín Díaz, Universidad de Córdoba (España) (vmarin@uco.es)  

Lecturer in Educational Technology at University of Cordoba (Spain). Faculty Member of the University of Cordoba. Editor of the International Journal EDMETIC; Media and ICT Education Journal. Her lines of research are emerging technologies, the training of teachers to use ICT and the digital competence of students.

Julio M. Barroso Osuna, Universidad de Sevilla (España) (jbarroso@us.es)  

Professor of educational technology at University of Seville (Spain). He has been the director of the Didactics and Educational Innovation Department at University of Seville for eight years. He is member of the Educational Technology Association EDUTEC. His line of research is emerging technologies.

Instructions and submission of proposals

«Alteridad» publishes empirical research results written in Spanish and/or English, reports, studies and proposals are also accepted, as well as selected reviews of the literature (state-of-the-art). For the Miscellaneous section, a variety of contributions are permanently arbitrated in the educational aspect.

Articles must be sent exclusively by the journal's website. The procedure requires all authors to register, but only one will be the correspondence author. Two files must be sent simultaneously:

  1. The article written according to the rules of the journal «Alteridad».
  2. Presentation and cover letter according to the attached model.
