Seven quality criteria of «Alteridad»
1. Impact and prestige: «Alteridad» is indexed in the Web of Science's Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), at the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), in the REDALYC Scientific Information System, in the directory and selective catalog of the Regional Online Information System for Scientific Journals of Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal (Latindex), in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), in the European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIHPLUS), in the Ibero-American Network of Innovation and Scientific Knowledge (REDIB), on the Dialnet Portal; it is evaluated in the Information Matrix for Journal Analysis (MIAR), the Integrated Classification of Scientific Journals (CIRC), and the Qualis review system for CAPES journals. In addition, it is in repositories, libraries and specialized catalogs around the world.
2. Visibility and access: The journal maintains an open and shared access policy to knowledge. The 197 published articles are available on the web for free; most of these in Spanish and English. In addition to being a bilingual publication, the website has versions in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The international visibility of «Alteridad» occurs because it is hosted in various databases and in multiple formats (ePub, pdf, html). It is also present on academic (AcademiaEdu, Kudos) and social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), video and image channels (YouTube), and author identifiers (ORCIDs).
3. Rigor of the process: «Alteridad» uses the external evaluation system by experts (peer-review), under the methodology of blind peers (double-blind review), consisting of 200 researchers specialized in education and its different transdisciplinary lines. Each article is subjected to an average of three reviewers, experts on the topic, excluding endogamy. Every step of the process is meticulously established. The author can follow the different parts of the process: a) previous phase for the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts (maximum 30 days); b) manuscript evaluation phase for its rejection or acceptance (maximum 100 days); c) online and printed publication of the manuscript.
4. Ethics and commitment: The Journal has an ethical code that guarantees the rights and duties of the entire scientific community: authors, reviewers and editors. The Ethical Code of «Alteridad», based on the International Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE), regulates the commitments acquired by all authors on the originality in the authorship of the papers, access to data, conflict of interest, correction of errors and responsibility. For their part, the reviewers commit to an honest and constructive criticism, respect for times, confidentiality and maximum objectivity that avoids redundancies or conflict of interest. Finally, the editors guarantee the ethics and commitment of «Alteridad», assuming an honest and objective practice, ensuring the optimal selection of reviewers, confidentiality and maximum respect for the times set.
5. Editorial management: «Alteridad», guarantees the quality of the editorial process through the OJS Platform 3. The scientific rigor of the paper is also based on the work of reviewers, the Technical Council (specialized in writing, layout, translation), the e-learning web design and online publication in different formats (pdf, ePub, xml). Both the editorial and the dissemination and impact process are continually adapting to the emerging technologies that involves an adjustment and flexibility of the formats, an update of the communication models with the authors, and the process necessary for the global and international dissemination of published articles, reason for which «Alteridad» is among the leading journals with a network of international collaborators and a strategic use of networks to achieve maximum scope and impact in published articles.
6. Scientific community: «Alteridad» is in an important scientific community of unique authors, reviewers and readers. An editorial team collaborates in the growth and consolidation of this community consisting of: Editorial Board, Scientific Committee (50 from different countries and universities), International Council of Reviewers (200), and a Technical Board on collaboration with Abya-Yala Editorial. The author is the main role that underpins and gives meaning to the entire publishing process, prioritizing originality and novelty. «Alteridad» aims at more visibility, academic excellence and respect for the authorship. Each published manuscript provides detailed information on how to quote it, its web update (Crossmark), its international supports (FundRef), statistical data, hyper-linked primary sources, impact metrics (PlumX, Dimensions).
7. Originality and relevance: In «Alteridad», the originality of the manuscripts presented is one of the main objectives, for this reason all articles are subjected to plagiarism controls with the professional program of scientific journals (Crossref). According to the regulations of the journal, plagiarism or autoplagiarism is an automatic reason for rejecting a paper. Only unpublished and original works are published that would guarantee real progress in the results presented and that would provide relevant and interesting data to the scientific community.
